7 - day Course

This program has been designed to assist Dental Practice Managers to achieve standards of operational effectiveness and professional excellence through understanding the principles of practical business management.  Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to display competency in business matters that affects his/her overall professional success.  The series of seminars will focus on the patient focused aspects of Practice Management including the soft skills, human resource management as well as the financial matters including the creation of a strategic business and marketing plan designed specifically for your office. Business Managers will acquire the necessary practical skills to help them to improve practice growth and profitability with confidence.

Session 1 - Business Office Effectiveness -  Essentials for Practice Management

Participants will learn the essential ingredients in effective practice management.  Participants will learn how to discover their own growth potential to increase the profitability of the practice and encourage patients to complete recommended treatment.

Session2 & 3 - Two Day Human Resources Management – Hiring for Success and Keeping the Good Ones

Hiring the right person can be risky business and building your dream team takes time.  The participants in this workshop will learn how to advertise, interview and select the right employees. Employment issues such as progressive dismissal and termination of employees will be discussed along with succession strategies for dentists who are buying an existing practice.

Session 4  --– Financial Analysis and Business Planning

The participants will learn how to do a complete analysis of a practice evaluation and interpret what the numbers really mean.  This will serve as a starting point to create the “ideal” practice through strategic business and operational planning

Session 5 - How to Create Standard Daily Operating Policies and Protocols That Align with Your Operating Budget

Participants will learn how to create and implement standard daily operating policies and procedures for their practice.  This will include appointment scheduling and cancellation policies, dental insurance, inventory control, financial policies and much more. 

Session 6 - Marketing and Advertising in Dentistry

Participants will learn how to create a marketing plan based on analysis of patient surveys, statistical analysis and understanding consumer trends. They will learn how to target market and how to create the most marketing impact, even on a strict budget.

This course will identify the key performance indicators in dentistry and describe the importance of each.  It will include a practice analysis exercise to identify the current status of the dental practice.  This seminar will identify the type of information that is necessary for practice growth and examine where the areas of weakness occur such as; cancelled and missed appointments and open chair time.  It will explore the relative causes and effects of overall practice performance and the relationship between revenue, expenses and earnings.

This course will address tough questions that dentists are faced with and provide some guidelines to making appropriate business decisions.  Decide when it is time to add or reduce staff and analyze the overall effect on productivity.  When is it time to move?  Will it add value to the practice? Will purchasing equipment increase the value and how much revenue will be generated? The role of budgeting and forecasting will be discussed and implementation strategies will be introduced.

This course will examine all aspects of the patient experience in the dental office by establishing policies and procedures that may be used as guidelines for training new staff members or rejuvenating the practices of existing staff. Turn Accounts Receivable into Accounts Received

As with any service, dentists deserve to receive fair reimbursement for their work.  This course will present examples of collection systems that work to keep the accounts receivable within reasonable limits.  It will examine methods of keeping accounts current and “receivable” by collecting payment at the time of service and following up on a regular basis.  Discussion will centre on the need for current accounts receivable and avoiding delinquent accounts. This course will include discussion on the tools of technology that will assist the credit and collection process. 

Having clear financial policies within your dental office will assist the patient in realizing the value of treatment by knowing what to expect.  Financial arrangements need to be discussed and agreed to before treatment commences.  Dental staff require direction and easy to follow systems.  This course will provide guidelines as to writing and implementing payment plans and financial policies within your office.  Sample letters and follow-up strategies will be included.

Setting and maintaining goals is a continuous process requiring regular checkpoints along the way and make the necessary adjustments to steer a steady course toward business success.  It is important to set goals that are specific, measurable, and attainable and time bound.  This course will examine the process of setting goals and celebrating success at regular intervals.  Involving the entire staff in the goal setting process is absolutely necessary to create a cooperative effort in achievement.  This course will include exercises in goal setting for the entire team and methods of monitoring the progress.
